In Stage One, each of the twelve non-sequential lessons
consists of seven segments. Each segment is approximately five minutes
long.
The Seven Segments:
- The Mimes introduce the theme topic and basic vocabulary
aided by Voice-over. They are usually involved in somewhat comic situations.
- The Artist draws while the Voice-Over provides
the vocabulary. Everyone enjoys watching the picture develop.
- The Skit, involving conversation, gives the student
an opportunity to comprehend words in context.
- The Lesson provides content information. Subjects
such as science, health, and geography are taught.
- Assuming many students are familiar with concepts but need the English
equivalents for the numbers and fractions, the Math Lesson
uses a variety of visual aids to review counting, adding, multiplying,
percentage, time, etc. Students are encouraged to respond orally.
- The Field Trip destinations are as varied as a
library, a wildlife center, the Nation's Capital, and a yard sale.
- In Sing-Along, twelve traditional American songs
are introduced. Each is presented in a different musical style with
appropriate sets and costumes. Students are encouraged to sing-along.
The videos are authored and produced by Peggy Hollingsworth, who studied
Theater Arts at Columbia University, NY and at University of California,
Los Angeles before receiving a M.S. in the field of Special Education
from California State University, Fullerton, CA. Peggy Hollingsworth
has also produced Open Door to English, which is a
video series in the form of musical dialogues. If you wish, you can

English here at ESL.net.
Filmed at the studios of Yale Video Productions in Anaheim, California,
Stage One utilizes a staff of over sixty production
